Switching Over

  • Will my electricity be disrupted if I switch over?
  • No,there will not be any disruption to your electricity supply if you retain your existing meter type. Hence, you will continue to enjoy the same quality, safety and reliability of electricity supply if you choose to purchase from private retailer. However, if you have requested for a meter change, there may be a down time of less than 30 minutes during the meter installation.

  • How long does it take to switch from SP to PowerElectric?
  • It takes 10-15 days after sign up.

  • What will happen to my security deposit with SP after switching to PowerElectric
  • SP will return 65% of your deposit (remaining 35% for water and/or gas). The 65% deposit will be use to offset your next month bill.

  • When can i do the switch over?
  • In November 2018, the Open Electricity Market was rolled out nationwide to all consumers, mainly households, by zones. To know when your zone is open, check out the OEM website here.

  • What happen if there is a power outage?
  • Contact SP Group at 1800-778 8888. SP Group is still in charge of the electricity transmission and distribution network.

Payment

  • What happen if I move to a new address after the sign up?
  • You will need to contact PowerElectric 10-15 days in advance. You will first be charged Early Termination Fee on the supply address which you terminated. There will also be an account closure fee of $10.70 (with GST), collected on behalf of SP Group.After you move to your new address and sign up again with PowerElectric on a new contract, you will be credited the Early Termination Fee that you paid previously.

  • Who will read my meter?
  • SP Group is the sole licensed meter reader for all Residential consumers. PowerElectric will bill you according to the reading taken by SP Group.

  • Do I need to pay security deposit to PowerElectric?
  • Security Deposit is waived for Singaporean or Permanent Residents. Foreigner will have deposit based on the dwelling type.

  • Will i still be eligible for U-Save rebates after switching to PowerElectric?
  • Yes, you will continue to be eligible for U-Save rebates. Your U-Save rebates will be used to offset your SP bill first then the remaining will be used to offset your bill with PowerElectric.

Billing

  • How do I pay for the bill?
  • You can set up recurring credit/debit card payment through our PowerElectric portal, by filling in giro form sent to you, by using I-banking service or using ATS machine.

  • How do I view my monthly bills?
  • You can login to PowerElectric portal to view your bills, emails containing your bill will also be sent to you monthly. Therefore, ensure that you have key in the correct email during the sign up.

  • Will I receive hard copy bill from PowerElectric?
  • You will continue to receive paper bill from SP Group for your water and gas. If you have chose paper bill during the sign up, you will receive a separate bill from PowerElectric. If you chose e-statement, only emails will be sent to you.

Sign Up and Contract

  • Can I help to sign up when I am not the SP account holder?
  • Yes, you can help the SP account holder to sign up as long as you are authorised and over 18 years of age.

  • I am a tanant, can I sign up with PowerElectric?
  • Yes, as long as the SP bill is under your name, you can sign up with PowerElectric.

  • What will happen if my contract with PowerElectric expires?
  • Prior to your expiry date, you will receive notifications(calls and sms) from PowerElectric with your renewal options. If we do not hear from you, your contract will be automatically renewed after your expiry date. PowerElectric guarantees that the renewal rates will be lower than the prevailing regulated tariff.

  • What happen if I terminate the contract early?
  • There will be an early termination fee charged and it is calculated as follows: Amount of months left to end of contract x Average monthly bill x 30%.
